I gave this book as a gift to my son, who is engaged to a Christian girl, and was being strong-armed into that mind-set. He already possessed valid instincts about what God is, and how contrived the bible sounds - but this book helped to really arm him and help him hold his ground. There's a greedy IRS flunky looking for a big score, an FBI agent with an axe to grind, a clingy male model with the prettiest feet in America, a meatpacking heir with a taste for S&M, a kinky trophy wife, and an unfortunate incident involving a vat of eucalyptus-scented wax. Then things get really complicated.

Jeffrey Gentile is a Chicago native. He grew up mob-adjacent, near the intersection of Hoodlum and Gangster, where few things are as they appear, and you always know somebody who knows somebody. He currently lives an expatriate life in Los Angeles. This is his debut novel.

Gangsters, Drag Queens, and Rich Guys.... Oh My!

This is a great one. Think Josh Lanyon wit crossed with Janet Evanovich's drag queen high-jinx.

This book is more of a soap opera than a typical romance. You don't get a lot of romantic play-by-play. But there is a lot of action and drama. The plot and the characters are realistic and very funny. And I have to say, this book contains some of the BEST written drag queens I've ever read. It's hard to write drag queens realistically, and author Jeffrey Gentile really nailed it. There's a duality to most drag queens that can be hard to capture in a believable manner, and the catty wit that comes so naturally to most drag queens can be very hard to script, I was very impressed with how well done Billy and his troupe are.

There are gangsters in this story, so there's violence. It is not overly graphic or disturbing, mostly only people who deserve it end up dead. I had a bit of trouble following the passage of time, often times days, weeks, or even months will pass between the different scenes, and how much time has passed isn't specifically stated. But once I figured out that this tale wasn't going to be wrapped up nice and neat in two short days (like many other books in this genre tend to be), it wasn't difficult to follow. It was refreshing, in fact, to read a story that is realistically framed.

Overall the plot is very well rounded, you get the characters history and a good feel for the scene and the people without a lot of extra/unnecessary words, Gentile has a real knack for summing things up that shouldn't be dragged out. I am very impressed with this author, looking forward to more, I would love to hear Ray's story!

Love and Bullets was fast paced and enormously entertaining. I loved the plot line a "gay mafia hit man" PRICELESS. but oh so much more the character development was outstanding and there were some real laugh out loud passages in the book. I look forward to more from Jeffrey Gentile, hopefully in the near future. I like the fact that the story line was not neatly wrapped up so we know we can expect more from this up and coming author!!!!

Loved everything about this book!!

I started this book Wednesday night and finished it by Thursday night!! I couldn't put it down! I loved all the main characters in this book but I especially loved Billy and Sammy!! I love the life and family that they created. I know I've read a great book when I end up rooting for every character to have a happy ending!! Hope to read more about this crazy yet loving family in the future!!

About the Author
Susan M. Shaw is Director of the Women Studies Program at Oregon State University. She received her Ph.D. from Southern Seminary in 1987 and taught Religious Studies for eight years before joining the Women Studies faculty at OSU in 1996. She has won numerous teaching awards, including the University Continuing Education Association’s 2002 Meritorious Course Award for her web-based version of OSU’s introductory women’s studies course. She is the author of Storytelling in Religious Education.ation.

Janet Lee is Professor of Women Studies at Oregon State University. She received her Ph.D. from Washington State University in 1985 and served as Director of OSU’s Women Studies Program from 1991-2002. She recently received the OSU College of Liberal Arts Excellence Award that recognizes distinguished teaching, scholarship, and service. She is the author of Blood Stories: Menarche and the Politics of the Female Body in U.S. Society (with Jennifer Sasser-Coen) and Comrades and Partners: The Shared Lives of Grace Hutchins and Anna Rochester.

Great Introduction

This book is a great introduction for those who want to learn more about what feminism is all about. The book contains the history of the women's movement and articles from a variety of authors concerning the lives of women from different social and cultural backgrounds. The issue of race and sexuality are important topics in the book because depending on their background women have very different experiences with sexism. It delves deeply into the reality of oppression and how it effects everybody and not just a certain group of people. It's a great read if you would like to see women's issues from the perspective of a diverse range of people.

The only requirement is an open-mind

This book shipped to me around the time it was estimated, and I feel the highlights in the book are helpful at times. This book is still in good condition, and something that I cherish having in my collection. Thank you for this wonderful edition, I would consider doing business w/ you again in the future.
