Absolutely Loved It!!

This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. I could not put it down until I had finished. Loved the story. The main character is a hoot! I laughed through the book. I also loved the character of the best friend. I don't read much bdsm so I couldn't tell if the book was predictable. The ending was a surprise to me. I hope she publishes more.

Spoiler Ahead This was an ok book I just kept feeling like something was missing from it. Rachel lost her job she meets Jeremy who is rich and handsome he invites her to his place where he offers her a job with a few catches. Here is where I started having problems with this book who works for someone and you don't know there name or you have to call him "The Employer". I wanted to know more about Jeremy why he was so angry. This book did have some hot sex scenes in it. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. This was my first time reading this author and I am looking forward to reading more of her work.

German photographer Thomas Struth's star is on the rise in this country, with this impressive and comprehensive exhibition of almost 100 photographs now touring several museums. His command of his medium is evident from the first plate of this eponymous catalog, where a derelict Manhattan cityscape from early in his career displays the complicated minimalism that marks much of his work. The numerous later large-scale landscape views encourage the viewer to feel uncannily present before vistas both close-range and distant. The shrewd omission of captions (a list of plates is at the back) removes any distracting contexts from such strongly contrasting spaces as an emphatically vertical close-up of a Japanese forest reserve and an artificial Las Vegas palm oasis. Struth's ambitious photographic project is also evident in his compellingly intense portraits of large families, where the sitters are seen frontally and in situ in their living rooms or gardens. As in his photos of apparently ordinary buildings, superficial impassivity masks a deeper mystery verging on the sublime. As the most complete survey of Struth's work now available, this can be highly recommended for all larger collections.

Not the best layout.

Having really enjoyed the "Paradise" series I had previously seen from Stuth I sought this book out. Personally, while I think he is a great photographer, I think this book fails to really organize and present his work in a coherent way. Black and white photos from his early work are mixed in with newer color work. There is no consistent size to the way the photos are presented. Some take up the full page and other are printed very small. One photo, which is printed 75 inches wide in real life according to the index, here is represented as only 5-6 inches wide even though the book is somewhere around 13 inches wide and the editors could have printed it much larger. To me I would like one single size for all the images with a decent but not overly large white border for each, no double page spreads, and the images to be divided into series that show coherent bodies of work and his progression as a photographer. Instead of "Thomas Struth: 1977 - 2002" this book would be more aptly titled "Thomas Struth: a hodge podge." 3.5 stars.

Wonderful Return to the Flood/Ark Universe

After reading Flood on a flight I spent the first part of a vacation searching for a copy of Ark. Both books were incredible, but Ark and its interstellar journey (along with a brief look at a completely flooded Earth) was my favorite. When I discovered that Stephen Baxter published short stories expanding on the Flood/Ark universe I spent an indecent amount of time searching for the short stories online. I was able to read the first half of Earth II on its original publishers website, but that was it. The release of these short stories in one book completely made my summer. I was finally able to finish the story of Earth II, find out what happened to the children on Earth III and revisit Earth. This book is an absolute MUST HAVE for anyone who read Flood, devoured Ark, and desperately wanted to know what happened to humanity on its new homes.

If you loved Ark, learn what happened after

I found the stories a little slow and linear but incredibly rich in detail and culture. No complaints, since the author did clearly state this was an exercise in worldbuilding.

More importantly, it provided a fascinating insight into the two worlds settled by the Ark, and a conclusion I'd been wondering about since reading Flood and Ark, fantastic books. The third of these 3 stories wraps everything up very nicely and we learn what happened to Earth itself. Very satisfying.

Nice epilogue a very interesting tale. Brings it all together, but leaves it open ended. poignant but hopeful. Worth a look.

A Comprehensive treatment of *the* critical Dragon variant

This is one of the most comprehensive, insightful opening boooks I've ever had the pleasure of reading. It isn't a "beginner's book," but it provides all kinds of insights into this really sharp attacking defense. I especially like the way the author says, "Hey, just *play* the darn thing and start to rock 'n' roll." (Okay, that's a paraphrase ;-) I wish there was more stuff in it on how to meet other Dragon lines (9 O-O-O, for instance), but this is sure a heck of a lot more useful than Ward, Gufeld or Levy (which *was* good for it's time!) Look at it this way- Kasparov used this book to earn a million bucks vs. Anand...can't you use it for your next club game?

A great coming-of-age novel

This is a wonderful coming-of-age novel about a young Icelandic man, Arnlj�tur. He doesn't want to go to university, hates the work he's been doing on fishing boats, and decides to follow his dream. He takes his savings and a few cuttings from the rose of the title (grown in a greenhouse by his mother, who has recently died) to a country to the south. There, the abbott of a monastery in a remote town has agreed that Arnlj�tur can set about restoring the monastery's medieval rose garden from the plans in the old manuscripts. Arnlj�tur sets off via plane and then a rickety old car, navigating some surprises on the way. He leaves behind his father, his autistic twin brother, and his seven-month-old daughter, the unintended product of a one-night stand with an old school friend, Anna. Not for long: father and brother stay put, but Anna and the baby show up again, and our hero calls upon the wisdom of a monk with a monumental knowledge of world cinema to help him think through the situation. Unsentimental, funny, thoughtful. A great read.

About the Author
Pete Nordsted has been an administrator/statistician in the Royal Air Force since 1985. He was introduced to Betfair whilst on detachment in of all places Afghanistan. Despite the various connection problems he soon realised the opportunities offered by the betting exchanges and has studied the Betfair markets in depth since 2005. He is also a Betfair accredited trainer and specialises in analysing the markets and back testing various systems and strategies. At present he is a consultant for a leading sports trading club and is chief editor of the X-report, a monthly publication that advises trading strategies for upcoming major sporting events.

The arrange of the book is a real mess and disorganized...!!!

The content of the is really good, but the book inside is a real Mess and Disorganized, especially the paragragh must be separated with some spaces. How can the author Sell a product so Bad Edited...!!!??? There a lots of parts about the Tables that has no Lines almost the entire book... it's so very difficult to read. The part that is a absolute mess the table chart "Result of Analysis on Tennis Strategies". I feel very disappointed about the arrange of the book. :-(

Typical, yet very appropriate, advice.

The advice is true of all trading, betting, just about anything in life: keep your options open, plan before you purchase, etc.

Something that differentiates this book is actual advice on a few markets, if fleeting.

All in all, a decent introduction to Betfair and trading sports markets.

Good start but far from exhaustive. Would have liked some coverage of horse racing as well. Delineating different markets and why you expect to make a profit on these, would also have helped.

terrific insightful tale

Nineteen year old Charlene Boher has been in prison for two years now for murder. Everyone seems to need to know whether she feels any remorse for killing, but Charlene feels nothing inside except the loneliness that has eaten at her for most of her life. With so much time, she decides to write an autobiography to explain why she feels no regret and there for must be inhuman.

Reflecting back to her lonely preadolescence Charlene remembers her room was her sunny castle until school when she met Vanessa, but that friendship ended when Vanessa's family moved; her room once again became the castle of Charlene the hermit. The fights between her parents when she was seven consequently led to the destruction of her family. Charlene feels all alone until as a teen she met Sarah, who shockingly befriended her. Four years later, they meet Maxime leading to an argument and homicide.

BREATHE is a fabulous work of fiction that enables the audience to observe the range of negative emotions that obsessed individuals emit. Charlene is an incredible character as she serves as the poster teen of what could go wrong when a family and a community fail a child. She gives no excuses or blame for her actions, as taking a life is ho hum. Charlene never received any positives until Sarah so a friendship obsession is no stretch. This terrific insightful tale will encourage readers to ponder what we are doing to the next generations.

That rare instance where the movie is better than the book.

I requested this book through library loan after seeing the movie, which I enjoyed. I may have said this one other time in my life, but the movie was better than the book - and I mean a LOT better. I'm frankly amazed that someone read this and decided it would make a good movie. Although to be completely accurate, that didn't happen since the film bears little resemblance to the book. This is a good thing. While the two actresses who play Charlie and Sarah in the film bring the story to life, there's not much story to be found here. Rather than showing us a dysfunctional relationship between an unhappy teen and the charismatic new girl who slowly destroys her, as the film does, the book consists of a plodding narrative that essentially consists of "and then this happened and this happened and this happened." Very little dialogue and zero character development. The book Sarah has none of the charm of the movie Sarah, only the nastiness, so we're at a loss as to why Charlie allows her to control her. The book Charlie is just bland and emotionless, placidly accepting Sarah's abuse without seeming to harbor any ill will towards her for it, which makes the ending come out of nowhere. The movie did a much better job of portraying Charlie's hurt and anger, and the "big event" was born of an explosion of these feelings.

This is a short book, just over one hundred pages, and yet it took me more than a week to slog through it. I'm glad I saw the movie first, since I wouldn't have gone near it after suffering through this dull book.

Obsession...or self-hatred?

We know at the beginning of the book that Charlene has killed her best friend. What we don't know is why. In the beginning we meet Charlene in her prison cell. She admits what she has done and she doesn't seem to be remorseful. From there she begins the story of her life: from a shy child to a haunted adolescent. Sarah, an American French girl, comes into Charlene's life in high school and from then on Charlene's life is doomed.

This was an interesting novel. Short, but really long enough. What interested me was that the novel claimed to be about obsession and how that can take over one's life. However, it seemed to me that Charlene wasn't really obsessed; she was taken over by Sarah and as much as she tried, could not escape the hold that Sarah had on her. Sarah is not really an innocent in this story as you think at the start. She is pretty evil and knows it. She treats Charlene rottenly and finds it amusing. It's interesting. That's really the best word I can find to describe this story.
