An Amazing Book: Fantastic "Concepts" and "Here" to Find Them

Recently I had a chance to read “ABAP to the Future” 2nd Edition by Paul Hardy. Before this, I had bumped into some of the blogs by the same author (just out of curiosity) and I fall in love with his story tellying style. The same essence is also present in his book which ,in a way, is an enjoyable representation of some pretty cool technical stuffs.
Apparently, he is a monster lover and he unleashes these lovely monsters in his books via various examples. The variety of topics are really applaudable. Most of the discussed topics are new to many of us. Each of the topics can be individual books.
The lucid explanation style along with the monster examples and witty comments always remind me of famous “Head First” series.
I liked many sections in this book, but here in this review I can’t resist myself from mentioning at least the following few.
1. New Language Features in ABAP 7.4 and & 7.5: The features mentioned in this section of the book are very handy and good enough to convince one to take their first plunge if one has not tried already.
2. ABAP Unit and Test Driven Development: I must thank Paul for selection of this topics. Even though, the concept is always little underrated among the developer community, the significance is undeniable. After reading this part I think some of us would try this out.
3. Business Object Processing Framework: “ABAP to the Future” would have been incomplete without the inclusion of this topics. The concepts are well described and adequately covered in the book
4. ABAP Channels: ABAP Channels is yet another interesting inclusion.
This book summaries many interesting topics which are presented in an independent manner. This means the readers can pick up the topic of their choice and try it out without too much dependency on the previous chapters.
The diversity and vastness of topics makes it impossible to mention “everything” about every topic handled in this book. However, painting a small but nice picture with ‘All the colors in the Pallet’ is equally daunting task. Paul has successfully pained 13 amazing pictures using all the major colors in 13 chapters of his book.
This book is like a collection of selected short stories, each of which has the potential of becoming a novel. Overall this is a very nice book and a must read for all.
